With many things happening these days, I am not sure how to start this newsletter. To begin with, a congratulations is an order for those who have ran for office for the new fraternal year 2007—2008. I have been given the opportunity to serve as your Faithful Navigator for this new year, and I am thankful yet apprehensive about taking on this role. I pray that I will be able to do the best I can and to act accordingly. We are all equal brother knights in Christ.
A little background about myself, so that you can get to know me a little better… Currently, I am the third youngest member out of 215 Sir Knights of the Bishop Gallagher Assembly. I have been an active member of the Color Corps under Commander LT Mathews ever since I was tricked into joining the assembly by Sir Knights John Kelly (may he rest in peace) and Sam Buckley (who says he would mentor me, but ran off to Ireland with his wife, Denise) on March 13, 2005. In the Color Corps, our brothers would know me as the “flash of red” running into church just a few minutes (actually seconds) before Commander LT or PFN John Hundiak would lead the men into procession. Although I may appear just in time for many events, I will work hard to make sure I am there for any Brother Sir Knight in need in any ability I can. With this small introduction about myself, I would like to inform you of what has been happening lately.
For the bad news this past fraternal year, we have lost four of our brother sir knights… SK Joseph Molnar on July 8, 2006… SK George Walters on September 19, 2006… SK Al Weir on January 11, 2007… and more recently, SK Pierre Bonneville on June 21, 2007. We will be scheduling a memorial mass for our dear brothers who have gone before us in a few months. I will make sure that the next newsletter will have more information in regards to the memorial mass. Surprisingly to many, I knew these four men. Joe... I have talked to and seen quite a few times at Fr. Lynch events: quite a nice guy to talk to. George… he was like an older brother I never had, who loved to sing a tune for the ladies; and more importantly, he always made sure my girlfriend had something to eat at Tuesday night Bingo at Fr. Lynch council. Al… he was always modest and humble whenever I talked to him: he was the Mr. Fix-It and always had a thing for his Bingo ladies. Finally, Pierre… a man who never gave up on life and lived it to the fullest, despite the odds… he was a great example of a knight. These men are sorely missed and we pray for them and all our departed family and friends.
Since the assembly has grown immensely in coverage, District 1 Master Walter Winkle proposed to create another assembly that will primarily cover the northern sector of Bishop Gallagher Assembly. This is still in the works and there is really nothing to be worried of. We will still work closely together, but this is a much needed and anticipated action in order to reduce the burden of the Color Corps and drive time. More news to come about later.
As with the good news, this past exemplification has produced us 28 new Sir Knights. A few months ago with the generous donation of $100.00 (from the attendance drawing) from SK Russell Palazzolo, the assembly was able to donate to the Michigan Band of Brothers Care Package program. A handful of us also participated in collecting items and creating the packages themselves for our brave military personnel in Iraq and other countries. I am proud that we were able to participate in such a program. Also, along with the help of SK Giovanni Iannotti (our uniformed purser), we were given the opportunity to welcome the Michigan Band of Brothers back to Michigan a couple months ago (there are plenty of pictures on the website http://www.bishopgallagher0482.com). Besides this patriotic program, we are now participating in the Royal Oak Memorial Day Wreath Laying Presentation for our fallen military. There will be more patriotic events in which all of you brother sir knights and family are invited to come to… please stay tune.
Also, in order to cope with our low dues and the rising cost of postage, paper, and ink, I would like to send electronic newsletters instead. I am asking you if you can please send me an e-mail (solonus110@yahoo.com) with your name and e-mail address and a small sentence to opt out of the paper newsletter, if you have access to a computer that is connected online. If not, that is alright, you will still continue to get the paper newsletter, until you have requested not to. The more we can get on electronic access, the better we can cope with our financial issues without raising dues.
Thank you very much, and May God Bless you to have a great and safe summer!
Ed Ching, Navigator
In Remembrance
Sir Knight Pierre B. Bonneville 4/25/51— 6/21/07
God saw he was getting tired And a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around him And whispered, “Come with Me.” With tearful eyes we watched him suffer And saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, We could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
Our Father… Hail Mary… Eternal rest grant unto them, 0 Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
YOUR PRAYERS ARE NEEDED!
Many of our Sir Knights have undergone significant health issues over the past several months. If you know of a fellow Sir Knight who is in need of our prayers, let your Navigator know and they will be added to the list.
· Rev. Leon Olszamowski · John Burg · Joe Bono · Ed Duda · George Cooney · Giovanni Iannotti · Chuck LaPratt · LT Mathews · Chuck McArthur · Russ Palazzolo · Richard Tschirhart · Gene Wilson
Please remember these Sir Knights in your daily prayers.

Come on down for this event… we will need some volunteers for a small concession stand that we will be working along with Fr. Lynch council. Our Faithful Captain and host GK Joe Golden has given us a good opportunity for some fundraising. For more info or if you can help even for a little bit, please give me a call… we can have some fun and make some money for a few hours.
Happy Birthday!! (Sorry if I missed anyone, please let me know if I did)
