According to the last newsletter I sent out, I talked about the weather turning cooler… well, it was a nice “Indian Summer” to say the least. From the beautiful foliage of Rochester to the dead, naked ash trees of Royal Oak, it is quite the sight to see such a big difference in the way nature changes in these areas. Halloween passes by with a very little amount of trick-or-treaters stopping by the house. It is sad to see that the social aspect of the event has been limited due to crime and “city” sanctions. It hasn’t been that long either that I have trick-or-treated the neighborhood, but things are changing. It seems that not all change is for the best...
Back on September 15, 2007, the 4th degree fall exemplification was conducted. There were 118 3rd degree brother knights who undertook the honor of being exemplified into our elite numbers. Even the owner of the location of our Exemplification, Mr. DeCarlo of DeCarlo’s Banquet Center in Warren went through as well. We had 14 men go through that day with 3 of them being priests (a list of the men are in the following page). We had provided close to 10% of the total class size out of 32 assemblies. I am proud of all of our 3rd degree brother knights who went through and even prouder of the men responsible for sponsoring them. We are blessed to have the strength of unity and fraternity within our ranks, and I am thankful. Of course for the mass at St. Clement in Warren, I almost slipped by unnoticed into the ranks of the Color Corps, but SK John Hundiak had a nice spot for me already. And “no,” I have not improved on getting to assignments extra early… though I am no longer called “Flash,” since the white cape makes it easier for me to just magically reappear in front of the guys.
On September 21, 2007, we lost yet another brother sir knight, S.K. Kevin Curtin from Bishop Gallagher council #2569. He was the co-owner of the Spaulding & Curtin funeral home and lost his fight to leukemia and will be missed by many. He was 47 years old… With this, we keep in kind the words given to us in the 1st degree, “Tempus Fugit, Memento Mori.” The words mean “time flies, remember death.” The Lord, alone, knows when our time on this earthly realm is finished. We must always strive to be better men of God: to be a true Knight of Columbus.
With this in mind, we should take note that our 4th Degree Chalice Fund needs a financial boost. Every year, $7.00 of your dues are placed in the Chalice Fund, so that one day when it is your time to return home to heaven, a chalice is to be engraved with your name. This chalice is then given to a priest of your choosing or your family’s choosing, to be used in the consecration of the Holy Eucharist… to be honored every time the priest says mass. What better way to be remembered? Since the unexpected passing of many of our brother sir knights, our funds have dropped. To solve this dilemma, we will be having a raffle to mainly help offset the cost of the chalices and ensure that there will be sufficient funds to keep this program running, as well as other charities. We will be selling raffle tickets soon and will send some out. Please consider at least buying one or selling one. It is better than raising dues and you can actually win money back. Our chairmen for the raffles are S.K. L.T. Mathews and S.K. Richard Lawler. This is very important to us all and should be considered greatly.
Our annual Christmas party will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2007 with the doors opening at 6:00pm for the social hour. Tickets will be $12.00 a person and proceeds are to go to the Veterans Hospital and other needed charities for the Christmas season. There will be a professional DJ with live karaoke, contests, dancing, drinks, and exceptional gourmet food prepared by S.K. John Iannotti and S.K. Tony Recchia. Please come on by and have fun with us. Please reserve by calling either S.K. John Iannotti or myself.
In regards to my comment earlier, one step to getting closer to becoming better men of God is through prayer, reflection, and reconciliation. Our Faithful Friar, Fr. Leon, has suggested that we must take it upon our ourselves to refresh and revitalize our spirituality in preparation for the season of Advent and Christmas. Through the help of St. Mary of the Hills parish in Rochester Hills, Fr. Leon will be planning a Saturday morning of spiritual reflection, a morning that will entail learning more of what God asks of us, quiet prayer, and receiving the sacrament of reconciliation. All are welcome to come on Saturday, December 15, 2007 to St. Mary of the Hills parish located on 2675 John R. Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307. If you are interested, please let me or Fr. Leon know (the numbers are on the officer telephone list). Please consider coming. The season of autumn brought about a beautiful change in our environment. Isn’t it time to enrich yourself to become a “changed” and better man of God as well?
Please stay tuned for things to come and may God Bless you this Thanksgiving and may you have a Merry Christmas as well.

We will need some volunteers for Bingo. This is a good chance to help raise funds for the Chalice Fund, amongst other needed expenses. Please consider helping out. Just give me or Captain Joe Golden a call to schedule a day good for you. Ladies are always welcome. We just need some people to man the stands for a couple of hours here and there. We will also be looking at raffles in the future. Please stay tuned.

Other News
There are still some members who have not paid their dues, please contact your Faithful Navigator, Ed Ching to find out if you are one of them. It never hurts to give me a call. Please do not let this opportunity slip by, as your investment towards the Chalice Fund may be forfeited. $20.00 is less than what you pay for your cable subscription and the dues go towards your newsletter, website maintenance, and towards the chalice (upon your untimely passing) that will have your name engraved on it and given to a priest, who is in need of a chalice to celebrate mass.
Also, dues will be sent out this month. Please consider sending your dues as soon as possible.
There will be a quick assembly vote on Thursday, November 15, 2007 due to the canceled meeting on November 1, 2007. The positions that are temporarily filled are to be voted on and finalized.
Also, the Assembly Bylaws have been revised and was accepted by Supreme. In a couple of months, we will receive the new Bylaws and they will be circulated. A Big Thanks to PFN Don White.
Assembly Meets 1st 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:30 Fr. Lynch Council Hall 870 North Main Street Clawson, MI 48017 Please come and Join us.
