Greetings, Sir Knights, It is my great pleasure to introduce to you our new… Faithful Friar Sir Knight Father Leon Olszamowski.
Father has consented to serve as our Friar for the fraternal year. At our last meeting Father Leon had us reflecting on the Gospel of Matthew 18:21-35 “The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant.” (Please look up the Parable. It is worth reading and reflection upon.) He commented that we (the Assembly) need to have Christian Charity toward one another. Charity was highly regarded by Father McGivney, so much so, that he developed Charity as the Principle of the First Degree, and the bedrock of The Knights of Columbus. From our founder, Fr. McGivney, “It is proper that Charity should come from a poor man as well from a rich one: Where there is plenty, charity is a duty, not a courtesy. It is a tribute imposed by heaven upon rich and poor alike, and he is not a good subject who refuses to pay it.”
Lord, help us, as an Assembly, to work on developing our Charity toward one another. Help us demonstrate our Charity in our Families, with our Brother Knights and in all that we do. Amen.
Bring a Member In addition to having our S.K. Faithful Friar Fr. Leon at the last meeting, he brought along S.K. Brother Louie. What a wonderful example S.K. Fr. Leon gave us by bringing his friend S.K. Br. Leo to the meeting. Our best way to encourage additional active membership is to ask and invite and physically bring our friend Sir Knights to our meetings. Hopefully, once we get the Sir Knights to a meeting or two, we can keep their interest high, and they will become involved.
Upcoming Events Below you will find a table of up coming events. I will try to publish as many of the events as far in advance as possible to encourage as much participation as possible. Please mark your calendars and join us as often as possible.
Tick Tock Summer is turning into fall, and the seasons go on. One can see that we are getting busy with many activities. We can use help in the Color Corps. If you are willing to invest some time we could use all the help we can get. Some times the Color Corps Assignments require us to cover two locations simultaneously thereby splitting the available Corps members. Being a member of the Color Corps is rewarding. We find that there are many opportunities to partake in: 1) Masses with a special way of Honoring the Eucharist 2) Special Masses for special occasions 3) Special events, not related to Mass. If you are interested in helping out with the Color Corps, please contact our Commander LT Mathews or his Lieutenant Commander John Hundiak.
Drill Team The “Visible Arm of the Order” is a well known slogan for the Color Corps. We need to keep the Visible Arm of Order in good shape. It would not serve the Order well to have a sloppy or disheveled crew representing the Order. Hence we have a dress code, which starts with similar tuxedos as a basic unit, which is accessorized with the Cape, Chapeaux, Service Baldric Sword etc. We at Bishop Gallagher Assembly are very proud of our Color Corps.
S.K. John Hundiak and S.K. John Snyder were able to take part in the Drill Team Competition on Mackinaw Island, in the ONLY team present. Our Master Fred Sleeman, State Deputy Kevin MacFarland Sr., and all of the Masters, with Vice Supreme Master were all supportive of continuing and increasing the number of teams competing. We are forming our own Drill Team at Bishop Gallagher Assembly. The presence of a well groomed Drill team will increase the pride and confidence of our Color Corps as well. To join our Drill Team contact S.K. John Hundiak, Commander of the Drill Team.

Regalia Donations We mourn the passing away of Sir Knight John Kelly. A small part of him is being carried forward. S.K. Tony Recchia has agreed to wear S.K. John Kelly’s Regalia in future Color Corps Assignments. It is a small way we can keep his memory alive and well.
We just found out that Sir Knight George Cooney, after giving much appreciated service to the Color Corps, has chosen to hang up his Cape and Chapeaux, for health reasons. Let’s keep S.K. George in our prayers. S.K. George has graciously offered to donate his Regalia to Bishop Gallagher Assembly. We thank him very much for his donation. In fact S.K. Matt Kennedy has already stepped forward and will be joining the Color Corps, helping to fill the void left by S.K. George.
If anyone knows of any part(s) of the Regalia, or even a complete Regalia that is just lying around…and would consider donating it to the Assembly where we can place the Regalia back into service, it would be greatly appreciated.
Contact Information We do not have a good method of contacting our Brother Knights of short notice items, such as funeral notices. To alleviate this we would like to gather phone numbers and e-mail addresses to serve our Assembly. Please e-mail at johnasnyder@wowway.com or call me at (248) 588-8741 with your contact information.
S. K. Mark Palmer Our Website IS HERE! Congratulations are due to S.K. Mark Palmer. Due to his marvelous manipulations of the “bits” we now have the website online. Our website can found at http://www.bishopgallagher0482.com.
This is one of the “new” things we are providing to enhance the communication with the Sir Knights who have access to the internet. We are going to continue to send out newsletters to those who are not on the internet in order to keep everyone informed. Those who would like to receive electronic messages please e-mail me at johnasnyder@wowway.com to add your addresses to our files.
Bingo Concessions I am writing to first thank my fellow Sir Knights and their Ladies for being an essential asset to our Assembly. Your help in the Bingo Counter and Cart has been very successful in the past few years. Due to your unwavering efforts and strong dedication this past year, the assembly was able to donate towards the mentally impaired, provide funding towards a defibrillator for the Clawson Senior Center, missionary work, and to the purchase of American flags.
The money obtained from the Bingo is primarily used for these charities we support and the many functions we run. Unfortunately, this is our only mode of fundraising for the time being. If we do not have enough help, this might soon cease to exist and we will have to find another way of raising money for the assembly.
If you are not yet on our volunteer roster, please consider helping us out, be it once a month or every other month. For the time being, we are looking for members and/or spouses to work from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm. All you have to do is set up the counter with candy and make a few sandwiches. We are also looking for members willing to work the cart from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (or the end of Bingo Break) every Tuesday.
Please consider helping us out. Every bit of help counts. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our coordinator, S.K. Russ Palazzolo, at (248) 651-0292 or myself at (248)217-1930 or send me an e-mail at solonus110@yahoo.com.
Thank you and God Bless. Respectfully yours, S.K. Edward Ching, Your Faithful Captain
Charitable Donations We donate $100 per month to the Charity of the Month. For July we elected to donate to Project Moses at St. Mary of the Hills. Fr Stan was very pleased. At the left, is Michael Voris, host of, “The One True Faith,” a Catholic informational T.V. show, receiving a check for St Michael’s Media. All Knights are invited to attend future tapings.
Request for Prayers I was visiting with Pierre Bonneville at St. Joseph’s Critical Care Unit, when Pierre made a profound statement. At the time he was going in and out of lucidity. He thanked us for our prayers and apologized for using up all of our prayer intensions. At last report Pierre is doing much better, but still in need of our prayer support.
This had me think that we need to actively solicit and encourage members to pray for our sick and dead. I also would like to ask all members to pray for our members in need.
I would also like to ask that our members who live a distance from the rest of us, and those who are shut-ins for a host of reasons, say a Rosary for us. Maybe you have the opportunity to go to extra Masses. Please offer the intensions for the Assembly and our sick members. There is great value in intercessory prayer. It is a way that we can be unified over vast distances.
